The Relationship Between Interstitial Cystitis and Mental Health

new Workshop

Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 11am-1pm
In Person | Raleigh, NC

The emotional and physical toll of IC often begins well before receiving a diagnosis. Carrying the burden of managing symptoms is a full-time job. Constantly having to ensure proactive and retroactive measures are in place to *hopefully* alleviate pain and discomfort is exhausting and isolating.

Several studies have shown a connection between IC and the nervous system. Having an overactive fight-or-flight system has both physical and psychological effects that intensify the experiences of chronic conditions.

Words from your workshop facilitator Trinity Perini, LCSWA:

Living with chronic pain, I’m intimately aware of the toll it takes on the body, mind, and spirit— how it’s woven into the fabric of all aspects of living, how it has a tendency to keep us tethered to fear, hopelessness, and isolation. I believe in validating the reality of what is chronic and pervasive. I also believe it is possible to soften the grasp these experiences have on our lives. I am especially passionate about supporting folx with conditions that are often invalidated and overlooked, such as IC, ENDO, & PCOS. And as a highly sensitive person (HSP), I’m deeply committed to supporting those with (extra!) tender hearts.

This workshop is meant to honor the fullness of our shared humanity through connection, as it is a space where you are entitled to a trusting relationship grounded in compassion, authenticity, visibility, and patience. I believe you are inherently deserving of respect and kindness, you are welcome here as you are.
